A Beautiful Day

I got a phone call from my favourite little sister this morning asking if I would like to bring the boys over and help her and Lily cut bale strings!!  Yes, I know, we live a very exciting life!!  Well, I took her up on the offer since all I have really been doing lately is, well, NOTHING!  I have been feeling pretty blah and found myself falling fast asleep on the couch anytime I sat on it!  Our house is a complete disaster and instead of taking control of it I let it getter even more out of control because I look around and realize there is really a lot to do!  And it seems we have an endless issue with water here at the Puzey farm!  Our kitchen tap is no longer producing hot water on its own, again I have to turn the bathroom tap on to wash my dishes and our dishwasher is still a guessing game whether the dishes will be clean or not!  And the water co-op here at the home quarter is not working :( So Jared filled the water tank last night and took it out the cows and calves around ten o'clock and got up this morning around four to start filling it again so he could fill the trough before he headed to work and now I am filling it again so he can take it out to them before we go into Lily's Kindergarten Supper!! Before the boys and I drove over to Arren's we drove down to the sand to check on the bulls and their water situation!  Thankfully it was working but I did have to break up the ice inside the waterer so they could get some water, and I am thinking we will have a massive supply of hamburger meat real soon...our younger bull, Junior, is not looking very good.  He has lump jaw, so we knew he would need to be butchered sooner than later, but I was real surprised at how bad his body condition looked.  I was talking to Buck and he said it is amazing how fast an animal can deteriorate once their bodies start converting their stored fat into energy because they aren't able to get the energy they need directly from the food they are eating, he most likely isn't able to chew his food anymore because of his lump jaw, the vet did say that eventually his jaw would just stop opening.  But despite this bitter mood I have been in I really enjoyed the day with my sister.

There was not a cloud in the sky and the sun was very warm and welcoming!  Arren attached the calf sled onto the back of the quad and Calum and Lily sat in it out to the field while Arren, Armin and I sat on the quad!  Calum loved the sled, he had a grin from ear to ear!  When we got to the bales he jumped out and said, "That was totally awesome!"  We cut the strings on the first bale and then we broke the square bale up into "stairs" so the kids could climb on top easier!  They had a blast and it really didn't take us too long, maybe an hour!  So back in the sled and home we went!  We had lunch and the kids had a shower, Arren really wanted me to braid Lily's hair for her Kindergarten supper tonight!  It was nice to just be outside with nothing but the sounds of laughter and the sun warming me to the core!  We will have to make it a weekly ritual to go and cut bale strings, especially if this amazing weather keeps up!

  1. Glad you had a good day! Your water issues sound completely miserable - I hope they all get sorted out soon. Love you guys. Lalainia
