Yesterday Emry and Calum went to the dentist! Emry has a tooth that has been bothering her, because she does have a cavity! Calum had his first happy visit last year and did amazingly so this year we felt he was ready to get his teeth cleaned! That was a foolish thought! This tough guy sure is a scaredy cat!! We first watched Emry have x-rays done and he ran out saying " I can't watch, it's going to be so awful!" When it was his turn he sat in the dentist chair and instantly clamped his hands over his mouth and his eyes! He was terrified that the light was going to burn his eyes, and he was sure the tools they put in his mouth were going to make him puke! The hygienist told him she wouldn't turn the light on and let him look at all her tools, which really helped him to be less afraid and he let her look in his mouth! Then it came time to polish! She let him touch the tool and he giggled because it tickled, he thought it was pretty cool and let her put it on his mouth, until he tasted the polish! That was it and he freaked out! The dentist was able to at least look at his teeth and said they looked really healthy with no cavities! He does have a cross bite that will need to be corrected after be turns eight but before he turns ten!
Emry has other issues that will need to be fixed later on too. Her eye teeth on the bottom have not yet come in and should have before some of the other teeth have. So has lost arch space on the bottom and she'll need to have braces to widen and move all those teeth forward. And on the top she'll have to have braces to move all her teeth back, she will also have to have some molars removed to allow the teeth to move back. The dentist said it was an unusual case because her molars match up when she bites, probably because she missing her eye teeth! Other than that she did great, as always!!

The Magic of Medicine
Emry has been so sick since last Monday (February 11th)! Poor thing! It really has been heart breaking to see her so weak. She ended up going to school twice that week and she even managed the ski trip, kind of! She did her ski lesson and completed and passed her pylon test! But the rest of the time she was asleep on the bench inside the ski lodge under the watchful eye of my sister! Jared was so worried about her, at one point it took him twenty seconds to get her to wake up, and even once she did she was glassy eyed and not really seeing him. She didn't ever have a high fever, but she had really rosy cheeks and glassy looking eyes and really achy! Thankfully she has this week off to rest and recuperate, but I was sad for her to be spending her week off confined to a couch and sipping ginger ale! The other day her ear was really bothering her so I finally took her to the doctor where he said she most definitely had an ear infection, bad enough that it was preventing her from hearing. So he prescribed antibiotics and after only three doses she is feeling much better! Not 100% but good enough that she wants to play with Lily today! I am happy she can maybe enjoy the last three days of her school break!!
We did take the kids to "Wreck it Ralph" on Family Day, which was a lot of fun! Emry however was pretty out of it, but she did enjoy it! Calum was terrified for the first little bit! My dad had taken him and Lily to it last month but had to leave because Calum freaked out in the opening scene because he thought it was too scary! When my dad told me this I was sure Calum wasn't that scared! But on Sunday we watched "Hotel Transylvania" and he was absolutely terrified! It was actually quite humorous to see! He ran to his room bawling and then when he did come out he sat in the rocking chair just outside his room where he couldn't see the tv, he would laugh when he heard a funny part and then get brave and venture out to watch with us! Only he would see the tv and chicken out again! He watched most of the show sitting on the stairs peeking over the computer! He finally did sit with Myrna for the last two minutes and even told us he liked it!! Sometimes that boy really makes me laugh! He is such a tough looking guy on the outside but a real softie on the inside!!

Happy "Love" Day
This year for Valentine's Day I thought we would have a special supper!! We invited Grandma Puzey over to help us celebrate! So I made heart shaped pancakes (I desperately tried to find the "big" heart shaped cookie cutters I had, but I am thinking they didn't fit in my cake decorating drawer in a special compartment for my cookie cutters, so I got rid of them!). Anyway, I improvised by putting the batter on the griddle in a heart shape, and to my complete and utter surprise, it worked!! I also cut the strawberries to look like hearts (all I did for that was cut the stem off in a triangle type shape and then sliced the strawberries, and again to my surprise it worked!). It truly is amazing the things I can come up with in the wee hours of the morning while I am laying wide awake totally annoyed because beside me Jared and Calum seem to be having a glorious and undisturbed sleep!!
I also made pink whipped cream and pink lemonade, and I cut the butter with a heart shaped cookie cutter! And to complete the Valentine's theme I placed the flower Emry got from the School Council in the middle of the table! When we sat down to eat all my effort was not for not!! Calum took one look at the pancakes and said, "they are heart pancakes for Valentine's!" And then he gave me a great big hug!! He also noticed the pink whipped cream! It was fun to prepare and even more fun to eat! We don't always have whipped cream and strawberries with our pancakes, but I really love them that way and so does Jared, but it only took him 35 years to actually give them a try!!
At Emry's Activity Day's they made heart shaped sugar cookies and decorated them and then put them in a homemade box. She gave each of us one after supper! They were really yummy and finished our "love"-ly Valentine's dinner off perfectly! Myrna gave each of the kids a little baggie full of chocolate, and as we were getting the kids ready for bed Calum says, "Look Dad, these are the candies Grandma gave me because she loves me!" He is really quite a tender hearted little guy, I love him so much!
It was a wonderful Valentine's Day and I wouldn't have changed one minute of it for anything! I love my little family so much and I am so thankful we live so close to Myrna so we can call her half an hour before supper and ask her to come over and eat with us! Well, I think there is one thing I would change...I would change the fact that I am sitting here writing this while Jared is out trying to get the water working for the cows!! I would much rather be cuddled into him while watching a sappy movie!!
I always scoffed at others when they called it Happy Love Day, but it truly is a wonderful day of love!! I think I have been converted to calling it Love Day, so much more fitting!!
So, Happy Love Day to all my family and friends!

A Beautiful Day
I got a phone call from my favourite little sister this morning asking if I would like to bring the boys over and help her and Lily cut bale strings!! Yes, I know, we live a very exciting life!! Well, I took her up on the offer since all I have really been doing lately is, well, NOTHING! I have been feeling pretty blah and found myself falling fast asleep on the couch anytime I sat on it! Our house is a complete disaster and instead of taking control of it I let it getter even more out of control because I look around and realize there is really a lot to do! And it seems we have an endless issue with water here at the Puzey farm! Our kitchen tap is no longer producing hot water on its own, again I have to turn the bathroom tap on to wash my dishes and our dishwasher is still a guessing game whether the dishes will be clean or not! And the water co-op here at the home quarter is not working :( So Jared filled the water tank last night and took it out the cows and calves around ten o'clock and got up this morning around four to start filling it again so he could fill the trough before he headed to work and now I am filling it again so he can take it out to them before we go into Lily's Kindergarten Supper!! Before the boys and I drove over to Arren's we drove down to the sand to check on the bulls and their water situation! Thankfully it was working but I did have to break up the ice inside the waterer so they could get some water, and I am thinking we will have a massive supply of hamburger meat real soon...our younger bull, Junior, is not looking very good. He has lump jaw, so we knew he would need to be butchered sooner than later, but I was real surprised at how bad his body condition looked. I was talking to Buck and he said it is amazing how fast an animal can deteriorate once their bodies start converting their stored fat into energy because they aren't able to get the energy they need directly from the food they are eating, he most likely isn't able to chew his food anymore because of his lump jaw, the vet did say that eventually his jaw would just stop opening. But despite this bitter mood I have been in I really enjoyed the day with my sister.
There was not a cloud in the sky and the sun was very warm and welcoming! Arren attached the calf sled onto the back of the quad and Calum and Lily sat in it out to the field while Arren, Armin and I sat on the quad! Calum loved the sled, he had a grin from ear to ear! When we got to the bales he jumped out and said, "That was totally awesome!" We cut the strings on the first bale and then we broke the square bale up into "stairs" so the kids could climb on top easier! They had a blast and it really didn't take us too long, maybe an hour! So back in the sled and home we went! We had lunch and the kids had a shower, Arren really wanted me to braid Lily's hair for her Kindergarten supper tonight! It was nice to just be outside with nothing but the sounds of laughter and the sun warming me to the core! We will have to make it a weekly ritual to go and cut bale strings, especially if this amazing weather keeps up!

Clearing a Blockage
The water pressure in our kitchen tap has been horrible ever since we moved into our house, and it would only seem to get hot if we turned on the bathroom tap at the same time. Well, as much as we didn't want to have our original plumber back to resolve this problem, I finally broke down and called him. He had been calling us to set up a time we could meet to finalize our bill, so when I called him back I was only able to leave a message and I told him to stop by anytime, I also told him that we had a few concerns of our own. Surprisingly he showed up one Monday morning, I told him about our kitchen tap and he said he needed to make it right. After much inspection he decided it must be a problem with the actual tap. But before he put a call into EMCO he wanted to rule out a couple other things. EMCO has been a real nightmare for him to deal with lately and if he could avoid calling them he would do anything! So he decided to cut the pipe under the sink and attach a longer tube so he could see what kind of pressure it got with out the tap attached. He was also hoping it might just clean out some built up dirt, which could be causing the problem. Once it was all hooked up he had me hold the hose into the sink while he ran down and turned the water back on. When I saw what came out I honestly couldn't stop laughing...2 screws! I was laughing because I totally wasn't surprised by this especially since our plumber seemed to be a little sloppy with his quality of work! Despite my lack of surprise, he was totally shocked to see the screws, he even asked how they would have gotten in there! After thinking about it for awhile he thought they looked like the screws that come in the wooden boxes the showers are shipped in!
Anyway, our kitchen tap now works without having to turn on the bathroom tap, and it is nice to hear that it kicks in the hot water on demand! Now to get our dishwasher figured out, it too doesn't have enough pressure to make the hot water on demand come on, so our dishes are not getting washed very well because the soap isn't dissolving. Who knows, maybe there are more screws stuck in the water pipes!!
