Looking on the Bright Side!

Well, this has been an extremely busy week as we have been getting ready for the carpet to be laid today!  Jared had John Deere training in Olds on Monday and Tuesday so Myrna and I went out and did some painting for Jared so he could be in before midnight when he got home Tuesday evening!  Well, he was still out until midnight that night, and so was I!  He painted the last coat of red and light purple in Emry's room and the first coat of green in the boys room while I vacuumed the hard wood floor for the third time in less than a week!  The mud will drive me mad!!  Wednesday we were out again until midnight, Jared finished the green in the boys room while I cleaned the showers so our plumber could caulk them the next day.  Thursday I spent from 11am until 4:30pm sweeping, vacuuming and mopping the basement to have it ready for the carpet layers!  When I came in I decided to call Glorious Carpets to see what time they would be coming in the morning and if they needed directions.  I hadn't heard from them so I was just a little concerned.  I soon found out why I hadn't heard from them, they weren't coming:(  He told me he had to reorder the carpet since it has been so long since we originally ordered it and it had dried out.  He reassured me that it would be in next week and they would come then to lay it!

The bright side...Jared will be able to paint the laundry room before the linoleum in laid and get a good start on the railings.  I will also be able to clean the two upstairs bedrooms in the daylight!  It was still worth the long hours we put in this past week but it will be nice to take it a little easier the next few days!  The end is in sight so I guess I can be patient just a little longer!!

The Celebration Continues!

I had a wonderful birthday this year!  It seemed like we celebrated throughout the entire week leading up to my actual birthday!  It started last Friday night when Buck, Arren, Jared and I all went to the Home and Garden Show and then out to eat at Firestone!  It was a wonderful evening filled with lots of laughs!

The next day we celebrated Ashton's 8th birthday where we were able to share in a very special day with him, his BAPTISM!  It was a beautiful service, everyone who participated did an exceptional job and Ashton couldn't turn his smile off even if he tried!

Calum couldn't resist getting in on the photo op!
Calum. Emry and little Jonas!
The day of my actual birthday my mom took our family out for Chinese food in Nanton, sooooo yummmy!  Arren and Buck and their little brood also came and so did my Auntie Di!  It was lots of fun, and in keeping with tradition I had my favourite little party guests by my side to celebrate the BIG 3-0!

Gilbert is always concerned about adults having birthday parties, so I always make sure to "invite" him to my birthday party!

My Wonderful Mom, and Auntie Di
Jared and I went out last night for dinner in Lethbridge!  It was the perfect ending to a week of celebrating! A nice quiet dinner, with super yummy food!  I had the Ginger Honey Glazed Pork Sirloin smothered in peaches!  I don't usually order pork at restaurants but this sounded so good, and boy was it ever!  I NEVER eat the fat that is attached to the meat but I couldn't resist, so I ate some with the pork, it was so juicy!  Jared had his usual Blackened New York Steak and he too said it was rather exceptional!  He even tried a beet, but said it tasted quite a bit like dirt!  Score for me though, I got to eat his beets!!  I am so thankful for Jared, he works so hard yet he finds time to take me out, even when we have a deadline for the painting to be finished.  I love him so much and I truly couldn't ask for a better best friend, husband or father!

Well, Jared and Myrna have been busy painting our house, and does it ever look great!  They only have the final coat in two closets left, the second coat of light blue in the boys room, and both coats of the dark blue and the green also in the boys room.  And in Emry's room they have the final coats left of all four colors, and then all the laundry room.  Jared only has three somewhat workable evenings to finish since he has John Deere training in Olds Sunday night until Tuesday night!  Our carpet will be installed on March 30th, and then all we have left to be before we CAN move in is install the railings around the stairs and put in all the electrical boxes.  It is so close I can hardly believe it!  I am so proud of Jared, he has worked so hard on this dream of ours.  He has been exceptionally busy and has had to give up some of the activities he truly loves, but it has been worth it, and once we are in and settled in our house he will have a tiny bit of free time to do those things again!  Our goal is to be in before we start calving in May or else we would have to wait until July!  The saying is true, "Good things come to those who wait!"  I can't truly express my gratitude toward Myrna...without letting us invade her home and take over almost every room in it, we wouldn't have been able to build this house.  When we move out and finish all the little things we will definitely be over at her house helping her renovate.  Moving will definitely be bitter sweet, thankfully it is only a few hundred feet and not a few hundred miles!

The t.v wall in the family room in the basement!
I think he might be going slightly mad!! :)
Painting the boys room!
Emry's room, she picked the colours!
The bathroom upstairs!
The feature wall in our bedroom!
Our master bathroom!
Our music room!
Our beautiful kitchen!
Looking down our stairs!
Once again it has been a wonderful birthday, turning 30 was never a big deal to me!  I always looked forward to what another decade would bring me.  I am thankful for all I experienced in my 20's although some of it was a huge challenge, I am thankful for the person I have become and I know that trials bring growth.  I look forward to this next chapter of my life and I will live it to it's fullest!

Another Year Older and Wiser Too!

With each birthday I find I reflect on what the past year brought and look forward with excitement to what the future will bring!  There are many things I am thankful for...(I did copy and paste this from last year with a few edits and I also added one more thing!)

1. Jared, my very best friend, I am so thankful for him!  He is so patient with me and such a wonderful father to our three beautiful children.  Whenever the front door opens, they always light up in hopes that it is daddy!  Armin especially, he says "Hi Dad!" so clearly, it melts my heart every time!

2. Emry, Calum and Armin...even if at times they exasperate me I truly love each of their very unique personalities.  They all have such beautiful spirits...Emry is so helpful and always concerned about our feelings, she loves her brothers so much too, I love watching her help them with things!  Calum is so polite and always says, "Tank you Mama" without being prompted!  Lately he has been coming up to me at random times and throws his arms around my legs and says, "I Yike you mama!"  And Armin is so pleasant, as soon as I look at him his face lights up with the most adorable smile!  He does have a little mischievous look now and then, but usually his face looks like a little angel.

3. Family!  All my family!  I am so thankful I live so close to both my mom's, and my sister!  I have had to call on each one of them to help me out with the kids while I went to appointments and for that I am forever indebted to them!  I love the relationship Arren and I share, without her so close I think I would go crazy, and I love how close the kids are too.  Emry and Gilbert have really developed a close bond this past year and Lily and Calum play so good together, it is quite peaceful getting together now!

Gilbert and Emry four years ago!

4. The Gospel!  I am so thankful I was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!  It has been such a wonderful blessing in my life.  And even though there have been ups and downs over the years, the gospel has always remained constant in my life!  There are many areas I need to improve on but without this wonderful gospel in my life change would be a lot harder!  I am thankful for my Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ.  I am thankful for the plan of salvation and the opportunity I have each and every day to better myself.  I am thankful for the gift of the Holy Ghost and for the guidance it gives me when I am doing what is right in my life.

5. Friends who have done so much for me, and who have offered help in many ways.  Friends who I know I can call on if ever I am in need!  I am thankful for the time I get to spend with friends twice a week at Zumba!  It gets me out doing something and I get to actually have fun exercising!

6. Jared's brother and sisters!  I feel like each one is my own.  It has been so neat to see Dave and Jared work together on the farm, getting things ready with the cows and talking about different strategies!

7. My health!  Although I need to lose about 50 pounds, I am thankful I have the knowledge I need to achieve healthy goals...if only I would actually implement them into my life!!  I am thankful I get to teach yoga and for the teacher training course I was able to take.

8. I am thankful for the health of my children, yes we get the odd cold and flu but for the most part they are all healthy and very active!

9. Emry has the opportunity to go to school and learn things that I would not be able to teach her without a lot of tears due to my lack of patience!  I also love listening to her read, especially to her brothers.
I am thankful this is the year Emry gets to be baptized.  The joy it will bring her will truly be path of peace and comfort in her life.

10. Living on the farm!  These past four years of living in Jared's childhood home have been truly wonderful.  I couldn't ask for better in-laws, never have I felt like this wasn't home!

11. Our new house!  Soon our house will be finished and I am so excited!  Jared has done such a magnificent job!  I am so proud of him, he has built with his own hands, from scratch, the place we will forever call home.  It will be the home our children will grow up in, the home they will bring their children to and the home Jared and I will grow old together in!  It hasn't been easy or cheap, but it has been worth it on so many levels!

12. For all the help Jared has gotten on building the house! Myrna and Jared have been busy painting and it looks so beautiful.  I am also thankful for the Young Men, they have helped Jared with lots of nit picky projects related to the house!

13. I am thankful for my calling at church!  I am the Second Councillor in the Primary Presidency!  I am able to get to know the children on a more personal level.  I love doing Sharing Time and since we have had to implement a Calum intervention during Primary I have been able to teach it weekly.  I love the lessons and guidelines the church puts out for us to use.  The lessons are almost magical!

14. I couldn't ask for a better country to live in.  I often wonder how Heavenly Father determines where each of us will be born and into what kind of circumstances.  The freedom, the equality and the opportunity I have been blessed with is truly remarkable.

15. I am thankful for my dad and for his phone calls throughout the week.  They always seem to come at the right time, usually when I am in desperate need to hear a complete sentence that I don't have to pretend I understood!

16. I am thankful I get to be at home with my kids!  Even if at times I feel completely useless, and even lazy when it appears that not a lot has gotten done in a day!

17. Music!  Jared has always been a lover of music, all types!  And I am thankful he has influenced me to be the same! We went to The Black Keys this past year and we actually get to go again in May.  I love the talent some people possess.  I found a new band that I absolutely love too, The Civil Wars!

18. Technology!  I never caught on to texting until recently and Jared and I will text each other throughout the day, and just those little messages can bring a smile to my face!

19. Snow!  I loved how yesterday it was a beautiful spring day, and today there is about an inch of snow on the ground!  I love the variety we get when it comes to weather!

20. The stars!  I love looking up on a clear night and seeing millions and millions of little sparkling lights!  When each one twinkles it makes me feel like we are each like a star, special and unique, and sparkling in our own way!

21. I am thankful for Emry's imagination!  I love being in the car with her and when she looks out the window and can spot different shapes in the clouds.  I love it when she asks me what I see, and together we look harder for more!  I also love how she is always making up songs with the signs she reads on stores, I remember doing that as a kid too!  She really does have an ear for music!

22. The ability I have to drive, sometimes I love it when I am in the car alone.  I love looking around at the beautiful prairies, usually I take the time to soak up all I have been blessed with.

23. A three year old's level of comprehension!  I love it when I ask Calum to do something with multiple instructions and he fully understands!  I also love how his little brother who is only a year and a half also comprehends what I say, though a little slower at fulfilling his task he is able to get it done and has a sense of accomplishment on his face.

24. The opportunity I have to be the Time for Rhymes facilitator in Champion!  Even though there are very few kids who come anymore it really is a great time to bond with my own kids and teach them little songs and rhymes!  I especially love it when we do a favourite one and "again, again" is constantly repeated!  It usually ends up being the car ride one, and by the time we do it three times my legs are killing me from bouncing a 35 pounder up and down!  But the look of pure glee on their little faces is so worth it!

25. Blogging!  I have always liked keeping a journal but I have found that I don't always make time to write in it like I used to!  I am thankful for my blog because in a way it is my journal!  I love being able to add pictures when I want to, and I love being able to write about many things including all the trivial things of life!  I still love my journal because in it I can include the more personal parts of my life!

26. The last ten years I have been married to Jared!  It has been a journey, with lots and lots of character building experiences!  I have enjoyed the journey so far and I so look forward to what the future will bring.

27. Toy Story and Buzz Lightyear!!  Without these magnificent movies and toys, I think Calum would have been the death of me!  But at least I can accomplish a few tasks throughout the day when he decides he wants to watch one of them!  I love how he constantly gives me the play by play, by the tone of his voice I usually know what part of the movie he is at!  Also the Cars movies, he loves playing with cars, especially his "talking" cars!

28. I am thankful for the little girl I have!  I love that she loves to wear dresses and "high heels", but that she still loves going out to help her daddy feed cows and work on the house in her little over-alls!  The best of both world's!  I am also thankful for two little boys who will be best of friends, and will probably get into a ton of trouble together!  But I am thankful they are so close in age that they will have lots in common!

29.  I am thankful to be me!  I am thankful I have a family who loves and supports me in all I do, and I am thankful I have the opportunity to grow and better myself each and everyday!

30. And finally, I am thankful for our cows!  It has been a trying year and a lot of work on Jared's part but I love how it gives us a sense of being.  Taking care of an animal that is completely dependent on us for food and water, I guess much like our children!  I feel like having cows on the farm really makes it feel like a farm.  The job Jared and Dave did on their new cattle handling system is truly remarkable.  I love going out just to look at it!

Family, Food and Fun

Last night Jared and I went out with Arren and Buck to the Home and Garden Show.  I have never been to one and have always wanted to go, Arren and Buck have been and were contemplating going this year.  So Arren and I got our heads together and decided we would drag our husbands and then go out for a nice dinner after.  Well, it turns out we really didn't have to drag our husbands they were totally gung-ho with the idea too!

We weren't able to leave until after Jared got home from work, which puts getting to the city a little late, but luckily the Home and Garden Show was open until 9.  We stayed the entire two and a half hours and saw some really neat things!  There is this floor mat that both Arren and I really want.  It was too much like magic though to be really believable, until I tired it for myself as we were leaving the show.  It happened to be one of the first exhibits we came across and the man that did the demonstration was a little too into his role as a salesman to take him seriously.  Anyway this mat...if you were to take only one step on it after coming in from outside where it was wet and muddy, and then walked directly onto the nice clean floor there would be no sign of the muck from your shoes.  As apposed to vigorously wiping your shoe on any other kind of floor mat.  It did look pretty unbelievable, and when I tried it I was totally amazed and desperately wanted one (a little out of my price range for a floor mat though!), the guy who originally did the demonstration came over when he saw me giving it a try and I told him I had to try it out for myself because  I was sure he had magic shoes on.  Boy was I proved wrong, something not sold in stores that actually works!

It was so much fun wandering around admiring beautifully landscaped yards and learning about new cleaning products proven to cut cleaning time in half!

The most fun was had at the restaurant after.  We were sitting on the couches at Firestone waiting for our table when Arren non-chalantly asked if I was wearing panty hose or knee highs under my jeans.  I laughed because she called them panty hose and then showed her that I was wearing knee highs, which she laughed at because she thought it was an old lady thing.  Her and Buck also shared a little giggle because she apparently thinks he uses words that would describe something better in the 1800's, and when I told her panty hose was more of a term used way back when, Buck gave the look of see I don't think so back to her!!  I asked what things he says and Arren said he always says cream rinse!  Well, I had honestly never heard that term before and asked him what it was, he said quite disgustedly that it was conditioner!  For some reason I found it hilarious and went into hysterics laughing so hard.  At this exact moment the hostess came to seat us!  We had many more laughs like this at the table, making the evening truly wonderful!

We were celebrating the BIG 3-0 for me that night as well, and I couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate such a momentous day than with my very best friend and my bestest sister and brother-in-law!  The food was so delicious as well.  We started out with the coconut batter prawns...sooo goood!  I ordered Crispy Caramel Chicken on sticky rice, and it was to die for.  I absolutely loved it.  I really like Firestone, the variety they have on their menu is truly remarkable.  For dessert we had Them Donuts....sooooooo gooood too!  It was a great night, I am so thankful for such a wonderful sister, and best friend.  I am thankful Jared and I are so close to them and I am thankful for all Buck and Arren do for us.  It was a great start to the BIG 3-0 celebration!  Every time Arren comments on my birthday coming up she always puts her hands in the air and says "The BIG 3-0!"  It makes me laugh!  I love her so much!

The Count Down is On!

Last week I spent a day moving kitchen things from the old house into our new house.  I put everything away where I thought would be most efficient!  I loved every minute of the unpacking, it truly felt like Christmas, and I had actually forgotten about some of the things we had in storage!  I even have one cupboard completely empty as well as one drawer, not including the empty pantry, which will fill up fast!  Today I spent the entire day cleaning our new house.  I tackled the windows and the floors.  It looks so much better and I thoroughly enjoyed cleaning it too!  Jared is out painting as I type this and he too is so excited to get moved in.  I think I can safely say that we will be in and settled before Emry's 8th birthday.  Which would be the perfect time to host a family dinner to celebrate her Baptism!!  This house has been almost four years in the making, but like my Dad said to me this morning when he stopped in for a visit, "Good things come to those who wait!"  I whole heartedly agree, Jared has done such a beautiful job creating our home, I am so proud of him!

A Time to Celebrate

This past weekend was truly a busy one for us!  It all started on Friday when we went to Ag-Expo with my sister and her family, my mom and also my sister's father-in-law!  We had a great time and I can honestly say that the kids didn't stop smiling the entire day!  My mom, Arren and I split up from Buck and John and took the kids around much quicker than they were wanting to go.  We looked at the majority of the exhibits before lunch and then let the kids climb on the tractors while the guys were finishing up looking around the first section.  After lunch we gave the guys a bit of a head start and let the kids run wild on the bleachers.  When we rounded them up to go check out the rest they were all bright red in the cheeks and the boys were sweating quite profusely.  We went through the last section and I found myself a real prize...my very own cattle sorting stick!  I know it will never be taken by any of the guys because it just so happens to be pink!  It was neat to be back at Ag-Expo, I honestly haven't been since I was probably in junior high.  I had so much fun with my mom and sister!  I love them so much and I truly would not know what I would do without them in my life!  If they lived any farther away I think I would be utterly lost!  I am thankful we live as close to each other as we do and I am even more happy that we share such a strong relationship with each other!

Our future farmers...

...Or maybe not!! :)

Wow!  Do we ever belong to the same family!!

Even Armin got in on the tractor climbing!!

I thought this was pretty cool...I always wondered how the calves fit inside their mama's!
Arren and my Mom!!
Wow!  That is quite a group, but we had a blast and amazingly no one got lost!!
That night I also went to a baptism, the first of Emry's class mates to be baptized this year, and the son of my super good friend in our ward!  It was such a nice baptism, I loved both the talks that were given.  Kacey's older brother gave the talk about baptism and did such a wonderful job, especially for only being 11!  And Kacey's grandma gave the talk about the Holy Ghost and even though she was speaking directly to Kacey she had my complete and undivided attention!  I was thankful to be able to go to his baptism especially since Emry is the next one in the long line of kids to be baptized this year!  I had tingly's in my tummy watching Kacey go under the water knowing that would soon be Emry!  I just can't believe she is old enough to be at the age of accountability!

The next thing on our busy weekend was celebrating Liam's third birthday!  Liam had invited Calum to come to the Bouncy House and then over to his house for a little party!  Myrna had taken Calum and Armin to the Bouncy House with Rachel and her boys while Jared and I were in Fairmont and Calum had an absolute blast.  Rachel said she thought Liam was a busy boy (which he is!), but she did tell her mom that Calum runs circles around Liam!  It was cute to see him playing with all the other kids, the more he ran the redder he got and the tighter his curls got!  You would have thought that the boys ran themselves to the point of exhaustion but they still ran wild at Rachel's too!

Calum was certain that this little boy was Armin, he was playing right beside him for quite awhile, and even tried to get in on the picture the little boy's mom was taking of him!!

The lunch Rachel put on was perfect for little fingers!  All kinds of finger foods!

The birthday boy!

Jared put on a magic show for the kids and had them completely captivated!

Max didn't want to miss anything so he kept his eyes pried open!

After Liam's party we headed over to the Holiday Bowl where we met Jared and Emry for Gilbert's 7th birthday party!  He had invited a few of his friends from school, including Emry, Calum and Armin.  We had fun bowling and after went to McDonald's for supper where the kids again ran wild on the play place!  I was sure the boys would instantly fall fast asleep on the way home but to my utter surprise they were both still wide awake when we pulled into the yard!  Not long after we got into the house though all three kids were out like a light.

Jared had to go up and rescue Calum from the top of the McDonald's play place.  As he was about to come down I could hear all the kids at the top egging him on to go down the slide!  Peer Pressure prevailed!!
Our celebration weekend ended after church today when we went to my sister's to celebrate the actual day of Gilbert's birthday just with family!  It was a fun afternoon with Gilbert's traditional Chilli Cheese Dog's!

The birthday boy!

Someone likes ice cream as much as his daddy!

It was a fantastic weekend, even if it was super busy!  We were able to spend it with some of our favourite people!  Jared was even able to get the painting finished upstairs in our house!  This next week will be dedicated to painting the basement!  I think the count down is soon to be on!  I should have a contest to see what the date will be when we finally get to move in!!
