Weekend with Grandpa

This past weekend my dad offered to take our kids for a couple of nights!!! It couldn't have come at a better time, I so needed a break!!! I was able to get our entire house clean before they left and enjoyed it for three full days!!!!  The kids had a great time with Grandpa, they went to a Petapolooza, rode the C-Train and the city bus.

They rode the elevator to the top of the Calgary Tower and walked out over the glass platform to look down at the street below, and they went to see the movie Pixels!! A fun filled weekend!!!

Walking up to the tower Calum had great big tears running down his face, he was so scared to go up the tower!! After a little coaxing and some time to get used to the idea of how high the tower was Calum warmed up and even stood on the glass platform.

Dads friend had also gone with them with her two grandkids which was a huge hit!! Calum instantly connected with her oldest grandson who happened to be just a little older than Calum, and Emry loved her two year old grandson. Emry also really liked Deb and told her she'd like to have her as a grandma!!!!  Armin loved sitting on the glass platform and looking at all the "ants" below!!!!

The weekend was lots of fun and the stories continued right up until their eyes shut for the night!!!

Jared and I were able to get quite a bit of work done at home while the kids were away!! We hauled bales home off one piece so we could move the cows there to graze. I mowed our yard while Jared cut the barley to bale later this week.  We went golfing in gale force winds at Keho and then enjoyed a yummy dinner at Earls!!! Sunday was quiet and I so enjoyed our church meetings without having to constantly break up little fights!! Our dinner after was yummy, we barbecued pork chops...so juicy and tender!!!! It was really quiet without the kids, almost too quiet!!! But a welcoming quiet, I desperately needed that to recharge!!! Thanks so much dad!!!!

Boating Fun

Last year when we took the kids boating it was Armin who had no fear and even took a ride in the tube...so far this year we haven't been able to convince him to give it a try, at least he has gotten more used to the boat and doesn't scream in terror with every turn!!

Calum has proven to be the brave one this year...even more so than Emry!!  Last year we couldn't get him into the tube and this year we can't get him out!!!  He is also eager to try knee boarding!  For it being a beautiful Saturday evening the lake wasn't too busy and the water was like glass!  The kids had fun playing in the sand, throwing a frisbee around, and tubing!!  It was a nice night, hopefully we will be able to get out a few more times before the summer is over!!!  The rain gives us a much needed little break between bouts of cutting and baling!!

Summer Storms

At the end of June I picked the kids up from school early to go to Vulcan for doctors appointments.  The clouds were dark driving into town and Armin was a little nervous, he would ask if a storm was going to get us. By the time we got to the school the wind started to blow harder and rain began to fall.  We dashed into the school to get Emry and Calum, and only got a little wet. Once we rounded them up and were ready to head back outside it was raining and blowing harder so again we made a mad dash for the van, getting a little more wet. We drove out of town and onto the highway but only made it a couple of kilometres down the road before we pulled over because of the hail.  It was coming down so hard that it sounded like it was going to break our windshield.  Poor little Armin was sitting in the front and he put his arms in front of his face and screamed, "don't break, don't break..." And from the backseat Calum was screaming and crying too because of all the lightening he was seeing. We decided to turn around and head back to the school to wait it out. The hail hitting the van made the storm sound much worse than it was, which made the kids scream in terror.  We got out of the van and ran as fast as we could into the school, not quick enough though...I got pelleted by the hail hard enough to leave a welt and later a bruise. Inside the school the kids were still scared and crying but were able to get calmed down quicker than if we had stayed in the van.

Since that experience Calum and Armin have been terrified every time they hear the wind or see dark clouds. Scared to the point of throwing up. The day we took them to see the Minion movie the clouds were dark to the north and we could hear the faint rumble of thunder. Calum asked over and over which way the movie was and even though we told him it was south he wasn't appeased until we actually turned the opposite direction of the dark clouds.  On our way home that night we were driving closer and closer to an ominous looking sky full of lightening, making Calum's tummy hurt worse with each flash.

The other night we took the boat out for the first time this summer, a very short ride...the clouds turned dark, the sky started to light up, the thunder rumbled and Armin started to panic, his whole body shaking. We got the boat out of the water and drove down to get ice cream, ice cream makes everything better...not so with Armin, he was just too scared. He kept asking if ice would fall down from the sky. We decided it wasn't worth waiting out the storm with how terrified Armin was so we left Little Bow and headed toward home.  While driving we could see that the storm had passed further west and it didn't look like anything else was brewing so we decided to head to Clear Lake and put the boat in there!! It took a little convincing for Armin to be on board and once he was we were on our way to another lake.  With our daylight fading we didn't have a ton of time but enough to get Calum, Emry and Blake on the tubes and then to have a bit of a swim in the unusually warm water!!!

Yesterday Emry had her appointment to get her retainer fitted and as soon as the boys looked outside they did NOT want to go to Lethbridge.  The clouds were dark and it was spitting ever so slightly and the the wind was blowing. Thankfully, their very favourite Ama was home and was more than willing to watch them while I took Emry to the city.

The way the boys behave when a storm is brewing is just like the way most dogs behave when they hear thunder, hiding with their tail between their legs!! It is actually quite entertaining though much less entertaining when they work themselves up to the point of puking!! I do feel sorry for them and I do hope they out grow this horrible fear of storms they have or they will be in store for some very long summers.

First Kiss

After a long, hot day of cutting Jared quit at a rare 5:00pm!!!  He decided to take us to the lake for a much needed outing!!  The kids started building sand castles when three little girls around the same age as Armin came over and got in on the building.  The fun quickly turned to pouring buckets of water onto each other.  Well, actually, Armin started it by pouring a bucket of water on himself!!!

Calum eventually left the fun to swim to the dock with Jared and Emry, but Armin continued to play with the little girls.

There was one girl of the three that Armin played with more.  The other two also eventually left to seek out other forms of beach fun!  They dug in the sand together and jabbered back and forth in their 5 year old language.  She was the one wearing the white and pink stripped bikini.  It was quite entertaining to watch them engaged in this way.  Finally after some time the mom of this particular little girl called her and said it was time to go.  I watched as she stood up and looked at Armin for a few seconds before she went to him and gave him an awkward little hug.  Armin thought nothing of it and just continued to dig, while she continued to visit.

Another call from her mom and this time she turned to leave but hesitated and quickly turned back to Armin where this time she gave him a little kiss on the cheek!!!!!  Armin looked at me with a look on his face that read, was that okay?  I shrugged and smiled at him and instantly the look on his face changed to a smile and a raise of his eyebrows!!  He looked pretty proud of himself!!!!

By the time Jared came back from the dock with Emry and Calum, Armin was sitting on the picnic table beside me wrapped in a towel.  I told Jared what transpired between Armin and his little friend and instantly Armin's smile beamed, lighting up his whole face!!!  At 4 and a half years old Armin can officially say he had his first kiss!!!!!

Satisfaction

It's about time that I have started feeling more like my self, not so down in the dumps, and with this better feeling I have found much needed motivation!!!! I was able to tackle my closet and donate 4 big bags of clothes, I also helped Emry go through her clothes and she donated 1 big bag to Lily!!!! I also cleaned out our fridge, it must have been pretty bad because the first thing Jared said when he opened it was "ooooohhh, wow!!!" I have lots of organizing around the house I want to do and I feel like I'm off to a good start!!

I was dreading the long days of summer trying to entertain the kids but its been good so far...we've been at the pool almost everyday!!! I have even read two novels already this summer!!!! And the bonus, the kids have found lots to do just by playing with each other! So far so good!!!

Happy Canada Day

This year for Canada Day was not much different than any of our past Canada Day's!!!  It started relatively early with moving the bulls in with the cows to start the breeding process!  This year Jared enlisted every single Puzey available on the farm and those of us who could drive drove a vehicle down to the sand!!

We lined the road on both sides of the gate with trucks, our van and even the tractor with the cutter attached!!  We had only one neighbour drive up to see if we needed any help, not too embarrassing!!

This year we weren't using our tried and true bull, the bull who as soon as the gate opens he is crossing the road and looking for his female friends, he would be breeding his offspring this year and that always results in too many problems.  So we borrowed one of Buck's bulls and thankfully he and Mambo, our slightly aggressive bull, teamed up and always managed to stay together.  Canada Day morning was typical for these two new friends and they were found in the watering hub by themselves while Nova, the tried and true, was out in the field.  Jared quickly locked the two bulls we were needing to move across the road in the watering hub and came home to round the rest of us up.

The only problem....as badly as Mambo wanted the female cows he didn't seem too eager to want to move across the road.  With how aggressive he can be and how unpredictable, Jared was apprehensive about getting in the watering hub with the two bulls.  All us other Puzey's stayed safely behind vehicle doors, while Dave and Jared tried every trick they could think of, without getting too close to make these bulls walk across the road to "greener" pastures!!!  Finally Jared got on the quad and rode out into the herd of cows to bring some up for the bulls to see just where they would be moving.  This worked and in mere minutes the two bulls were in their glory walking across the road with the group of cows Jared had moved through.

Jared went back to cutting hay after this and I took the kiddos into the pool to do some swimming.  In the evening we took the kids to the "Inside Out" movie, which I must say was really good...quite heart warming!!  The kids liked it and I even got to hear Calum's typical gut laugh a few times throughout.  We went out for ice cream after and were hoping to watch the fireworks at Henderson Lake but we just had a hard time sitting around to wait for over an hour before they would start with all ready very tired kids!!!  About 20km before turning down our road I looked back and found all three kids completely zonked!!!!  There is no way they would have made it for the fireworks!

A typical Canada Day for this family full of lots of fun and hopefully "core" memories were made!!!!!!
