A New Job

I am excited to say I have been offered a new job!!  I saw the job posting in the paper and then a member of the board where the job was being offered also forwarded me the posting so I thought I had better apply.  So a week ago Saturday I updated my resume and emailed it to the Director.  Five minutes after I pushed the send button I got a call to set up an interview time, literally FIVE minutes after!!  The director told me she was really, really, REALLY happy I applied!!!  The day of my interview came and I was so nervous, I shouldn't have been since I knew all the ladies who sat in on the interview but I just couldn't help it.  The questions started out to be quite fun, like what book was I reading...and then they got much harder...what have I done in a crisis situation? What?? Well, I've lost my child in the mall for what felt like forever...nope couldn't use that one!! Hmmmmm....too much thinking involved!!!  But somehow I managed to impress them with the answers I gave because the next day I got called back, a whole day earlier than they said they would call. And drum roll.............I GOT OFFERED THE JOB!!!!!!!  I will be the new secretary for Rainbow Literacy Society!!!! I couldn't be more excited or more nervous at the same time. My first day was yesterday and oh boy was it ever overwhelming...so much to learn in so little time!! The lady I am taking over for while she is on maternity leave is actually finished on Friday.

So, mostly for my dad ;) I hope to still have time to update regularly but I can't always guarantee it will be very exciting now that I am once again a working mom!!

A Busy Week

Wow!!!! These last two weeks have been busy for me!!!! And the next week is even busier!!! But it's been a good busy, a busy I'm extremely grateful for!!! I was able to fill in at the kids school in the office!! I loved every minute of it and was quite sad when my hours for the day were up :( it was a great experience. I loved getting spontaneous hugs through the day from Calum, and dandelions from Armin and waves from Emry as she passed by the office!!! I love our principle...she is one amazing woman!! Interested in what ALL kids have to say when they stop her in the hall, and genuinely concerned for them individually. Nothing gets past her either, she's on top of everything in her own unique way....nothing and no one gets missed!!!! The rest of the staff is unbelievable too, the atmosphere at the school is one of caring, integrity and love equally for all, problem child or grade A student...it was such a wonderful experience!!!!

While filling in at the school a job was posted in the paper for a temporary office administration position at Rainbow Literacy.  Jared and I talked about me applying for it and then the chair of the executive board for Rainbow also emailed me the posting...she gave me the extra push I needed to apply. So last Saturday I emailed my resume and not 5 minutes after pushing the send button I got called for an interview!!!!  I was rather stunned!  My interview went okay, I was nervous as one often is during interviews!! But I knew all the ladies on the interview panel and I'm very familiar with Rainbow Literacy and the programs they offer and their purpose in our community. I really had nothing to fear. I did have a knot in my stomach when the interview was over knowing 9 others before me were interviewed, I was sure I was out of the running...I was told I'd know either way Friday morning...two whole days away!! Thursday afternoon I got a call from the Director and she said she was very excited to offer me the job if I'm still interested....STILL interested? I was thrilled!!! My exact answer was "oh yay!!! I'm so excited!!" We talked a bit more and she told me I'd be starting Monday!!!! The position is a part time temporary position while their secretary is on maternity leave, three days a week and I can choose the days that work best around our kids schedule!!!! The experience I will gain through this position is exactly what I've wanted since I graduated college 14 years ago!!!!!

So this upcoming week will again be busy, I'll be starting at Rainbow Monday, Wednesday and Friday and filling in at the school again on Tuesday and Thursday!!!! But it will be a good busy, one I'm excited for!!

The boys start baseball on Wednesday and Emry starts band rehearsal that day too...she is going to be playing her daddy's trumpet!!! She was so excited, just about as excited as Jared!!!! When she told him he gave her a big hug!!!

Calum and Emry also start golf next week, and both have their season pass badge to hang on their golf bag!!! They were as pleased as punch to show me their badges!!!

Calving is in full swing and is going pretty smoothly, we've had issues with a couple of calves who are more than three days old. One died and the other isn't doing great :( so it's keeping Dave and Jared on their toes more than usual.

We have the best dog...Fender!!! He can't come out and check or feed cows with us while we are calving because he loves to bark at the cows and it riles them up. We have a rope attached to the front of our house to tie him up to.  Before anyone goes out to the cows we call Fender and he automatically jumps onto the deck and sits at the corner waiting to be tied up.  I think he is actually waiting for a tummy rub or head scratch!!!

Life is good, and I couldn't be more grateful for what is has to offer!!!

This Past Week

Our past week was fairly uneventful, but we did have some memorable points!! Jared noticed that a calf wasn't looking very good after he found it off by itself, actually across the road out of the field from his momma! So he and Emry walked them both into the barn where Jared milked the cow and then tubed the calf...put the milk right into his belly!! The next day he seemed to be much better, running when we got near him and even drinking from his mom!!! Finally Jared was able to save a calf, a huge feeling of satisfaction!!!!

I was able to sub at the kids school this past week in the office!!!! I loved every minute of it! I get to again next week too!! I love being able to see the kids as they went into gym or out for recess! I loved the spontaneous hugs from Calum when he came down to use the washroom, and the little flowers and drawing!!! It was a great week and I look forward to the upcoming week!!!

It was crazy hair day at school so Calum had me put pony tales in his hair to make him look like Rae from Star Wars The Force Awakens!!!! He looked pretty cute and crazy!!!

I had mentioned to Jared what I wanted to do in the front yard in regards to a flowerbed!!! He took my idea and made it even better by suggesting a rock border from rocks that had been picked from the fields!!!! So we got up and started doing it!!!! It came together perfectly and looks beautiful, I can't wait to get flowers in it!!!

Armin was able to go to see some baby Pygmy goats at a local farm with his Kindergarten class!!! They even got to hold baby triplet goats that were born only 6 hours before they got there!!!!! Pretty amazing!!! They also saw cats, chickens and a llama!!!! It was a gorgeous day and the kids had so much fun!!!!!!

So a pretty normal week in the Life of a Puzey, but a great one!!!!!!

Calving Has Begun

We have started off slow this year, only 2 calves so far. They are so cute running around out there. This calf in particular is so cute, he has a short stubby nose and black eye liner!!!! We think his dad is the limo bull we rented from Buck!!!

We did have one cow abort her calf this year. Jared and Emry noticed her on one of their many checks last Saturday. She was kicking at her stomach quite a bit and she would lay down and stand up over and over again, very uncomfortable looking. So they kept a pretty close eye on her. Even the kids and I checked her while Jared was at his Priesthood Meeting.  After Jared got home that night we walked her into the small pen beside the barn in case she needed help calving. By morning it seemed like all her uncomfortable symptoms were gone but she was discharging something gooey and brown and very foul smelling. So we called the vet, he suspected the calf was probably dead inside her, but he was at a job and had another call to go to before he could get to us.  At 8:30 that night he came. Before that Jared and I were able to get her into the barn and into the maternity pen.  We tried for quite some time to get her to stand up and it wasn't until Jared finally went to examine her inside did she finally stand. The smell just continued to get worse, I don't know how Jared could stand it, I got to use the excuse to go check on the kids because they were in bed but not asleep. When I came back out they were just cleaning up, it took the vet 2 hours to get that poor calf out. It had started rotting inside the cow and was kinda coming off in pieces. The vet had to reach in with the chains and get them around the front hoofs, one of which had come off during his first exam. He would then have to position the head and pull a little, and keep doing this until the poor calf was finally poking out.  It took an hour just to pull once the calf was in the proper position. We are so thankful he was able to come out, it saved the momma cow.

So this is where we are at in terms of calving, never a dull moment!!!!!!
