Father's Day

First, I am very thankful for my own father in my life...for his love and support. I am thankful I can go to him if I am ever in need and he will never turn me away!!! I missed him this Father's Day but I look forward to when we can get together....I love you dad!!!!

My very best friend also happens to be the father of my three rowdy rascals!!! If not for him our children would not be who they are today...they are still growing and changing everyday but Jared has helped in so many ways shape who they are becoming.

He had the best example in a dad any kid could ask for and in that regard I am also thankful for my father in law...oh I miss him so much....

Today in church the Primary kids sang a song called "Dad, You're Awesome!" And it was perfect...Calum looked at Jared the entire time and sang all the words in his loudest singing voice. As soon as they finished Calum walked down as quickly as possible while still being reverent in the chapel and gave his daddy a great big hug!!!!

Our kids love their dad so much and really want to be around him all the time!!  It is very rare that he ever goes out to check cows alone...yesterday I was away for most of the day at a women's conference and Emry was at a birthday party, so Jared had the boys while he and Dave moved cows down to the sand.  A major inconvenience if you ask me but Jared made the most of it and the boys behaved themselves very well. Jared told them after they were all done he would take them to the beach since it was such a nice day, the boys were beside themselves with excitement....though a few minutes later and after Calum had calmed down a bit he asked Jared if they really were going to go to the beach?  He laughed and said yes of course!!! At the beach they had a blast and it just reminds me how serious Jared takes being a father, his most important responsibility!!!! I marvel at how well he can balance work, cows and family...even though at times when I'm down I do tend to tell him that cows take up too much of his spare time that could be used to do family things!

For Jared's Father's Day dinner we had bbq steak, baked potatoes, asparagus and corn on the cob with a Caesar salad.  To make it a little fun we each had a Dad's Root Beer...the boys were beyond excited to have their own bottle of root beer, so excited in fact we all had to do a cheers, and despite Armin spilling the majority of his, they actually finished them!!!!  And for dessert his favourite, cheesecake with strawberries!!!

A nice day and an especially nice way to give tribute to the men in our lives who make life just a little easier!!!!

Silly String Wars

I thought it was a such a great idea when I saw Char post about her kids having a silly string war, and then today I was in the grocery store and I saw a bin full of silly string!!  I instantly thought "Ah ha!! Tonight is Family Home Evening so I am going to have the best activity ever!!!! It also happened to be 15% off day at the grocery store so I was able to buy one for each of us!!

Once Calum was finally convinced that it was not going to in fact be a "war" he got right in and had a blast!!  They had so much fun that it was a huge disappointment when the aerosol ran out thus putting a dramatic end to the silly string!!!  I promised I would find more sometime and then we would do it again!

Gibson loves being right with us!!!

Emry gave us a great lesson about what to avoid so we wouldn't block out the feelings from the Holy Ghost.  I loved her object lesson how when you put a coin in a glass jar you can hear it very well when shaken, it tinges and chimes...but when you add water to the jar it is harder to hear the tinges and chimes when the jar is shaken, much like our lives when trying to feel or hear the Holy Ghost.  We talked about the things that prevent us from hearing the Holy Ghost...Calum mentioned watching shows with bad language or shows that use Heavenly Father's name in vain.  Armin said not saying our prayers...

"I Don't"

Jared just stopped by the house on his way out to Twin Valley to do some instrumentation testing for work. I suggested he stay for awhile and visit with me while I ice cupcakes for an order today...of course I knew he couldn't, or wouldn't....he told me he couldn't because he has lots to do at work today, from across the room we hear Armin chime in with "I don't, I just have to play Lego!"

Oh the life of a 4 year old!!!!  We don't realize how much of our adult conversation they hear until they involve themselves in our conversation!!! They are precious and the time does go much too quickly!!!!

We signed Calum and Armin up for soccer this year and they both really seem to be enjoying it!! Grandpa Glen came out one windy rainy night to watch and he was rather impressed!!! Thankfully he took some pictures!!!!

I'm really happy we signed them up they are having so much fun and the best part...they sleep so well that night!!!!

Look at the before and after of Calum's hair...

So grown up!!!

Farm Girl Through and Through

Jared had asked me to feed the cows for him last Friday...they were very hungry and he was running behind that morning before he went to work, so I said sure!!!  They must get hungrier quicker while they are producing milk for their calves because they sure moo a lot to let us know they want food!!!  Well, I was feeling my usual unmotivated self that morning and barely made it to Vulcan in time for the kids eye appointments just after lunch...so needless to say I didn't get the cows fed until later in the afternoon early evening :( thankfully Jared was out of town for a team building meeting so I still had time to feed them before he would be home!!

The kids and I got home around 4pm and Armin and I got in the tractor while Calum and Emry piled on the quad!! Together they went to open the gate while Armin and I got two bales!  After I set the bales down Emry came to the tractor and got the knife (she knew EXACTLY where to find it too!!!) and went back to the bales to cut the strings!! So Armin and I went to get more bales!! Emry took the initiative and cut all the strings while I set the bales out...8 to be exact!!! She even told me I needed to flip one bale over so she could get to the strings!! She not only gathered all the strings but also took them all and put them in the burning barrel once we got back to the yard!!!  She is such a trooper and gets right involved!! She LOVES the cows and being on the farm!!!

After coming in and having supper I decided to go cut the grass, or rather the dandelions!!!! Emry had to show me how to start the mower!! When I ran out of gas it was her I asked where to find more!!!!

She truly is a farm girl...I am so proud of her in every way!!!!
