Almost Five!

Last Sunday we celebrated Calum's 5th Birthday!  A little early but to have some of our family celebrate with us we had to do it early!  My Mom and Mark are leaving for Mexico tomorrow and Buck and Arren and their kids are leaving for Scotland on Sunday!  So we had the traditional chilli cheese dogs, a jello pretzel salad and garden veggies!  I left a lot of things to the last minute last week and when it came time to make Calum's birthday cake, I dug a cake mix out of the pantry and some store bought icing and put together a rather disappointing cake!  To make it taste like it was from scratch I did add sour cream to the batter and it actually turned out to be quite yummy!  And even though it was quite quick and easy to put together the cake turned out pretty cute and went along with the general theme of his birthday.  Jared and I decided to get Calum his very own Nintendo DS, and since the Disney Infinity game came out last month it was a great time to do it!  Armin and Emry got him the game and everyone who came to his party gave him one of the many Disney Infinity characters that go along with the game!  He seemed super happy and really quite excited about having his very own DS!  It was a fun day spent with family.  I enjoy having everyone over at our house, listening to the laughing and the visiting really puts the "home" in our house!

I found Mater teeth at the Dollar Store, the boys seemed to love them!

Jared put this little hoop up in our living room! He now has a dream of installing a real one!! It did get lots of use!

Last weekend we woke to Gibson's very persistent barking!  Emry and Lily went out to investigate and found Gibson barking and leaping at a power pole across the road!  As they got closer they could see something perched on the very top and were sure it wasn't a bird!  Very excitedly they ran back to the house to get us so we could identify the mysterious creature that was 50 plus feet in the air!  When we got out there we found it was a racoon, clutching on for dear life!  They are such a cute animal, destructive, but cute!  After watching for awhile we left and not too much later we saw that it had gotten itself down.

The second week of school for Calum and the third for Emry has come and gone and they are still going strong!  I did ask Calum if school was still totally awesome and he answered with no, not totally awesome, just good!  This year will go by faster than we are anticipating, it will be a year full of ups and downs, but a year of growth!  I am excited for all of it!

  1. I think you cake turned out great. I always put sour cream in my cakes. I like it better than mayo or just plain.
